SCD Round 5: Summer harvesting

Round 5 entry for

My first instinct was to go with my favorite version of faeries from Yeat's book on Irish fairytales. I have another book on Faeries illustrated by Brian Froud and (personal favorite) Alan Lee that I also flipped through for inspiration... I even thought of doing something along the lines of Cicely Mary Barker's pieces (I love her art).

But last week while waiting for my Dad to come out of piano class (I had just finished my lessons). I started doodling and this was the result. It's been very gloomy and rainy here, it's rained for almost the entire month of June and I still have to wear a hoodie outside most days, so I wanted to do something with a summery feel.

I attempted to color this in Illustrator, something I'd never done before - and I did learn A LOT about that technique, but I wasn't getting the effects I wanted so I took the outline and did the rest in Photoshop.

I am very pleased with the results of this. I don't think there's anything else in my gallery is brightly colored or as cheerful.
